No Time for Tea (Grade Level: Elementary Grades, 3-5)
Social Education, v69 n5 p244 Sep 2005
Designed for Grades 3-5, this lesson plan aims to let the students learn how the Constitution of the United States provided the framework for the country's democratic form of government. Students will learn how the Constitution provided for representation within the government. A short story about the Boston Tea Party gives the background related to the catchphrase "taxation without representation" and how that changed with the advent of the new nation and later the Constitution. The lesson plan also emphasizes how the Boston Tea Party became significant in leading the American colonies toward rebellion against Great Britain beginning with the Declaration of Independence and ending with war. The handout of No Time for Tea is presented.
