Voix d'Auvergne. Langue et Civilisation Par le Texte Oral (Voices of Auvergne. Language and Civilization by Oral Text).
Institut Francais du Royaume-Uni, London (England).
This volume is the result of a two-week session organized for 30 British teachers of French, aimed at the rediscovery of French culture and language. The teachers were exposed to French language and culture through a series of round tables with a representative of French business, government, politics, and the like, and through personal interviews with persons of varying age, sex, and occupation. All informants were from the Clermont-Ferrand area. This volume represents a selection of tapes recording these encounters. Section one of the text describes the volumes, the tapes, the two-week session, and provides information about the accompanying (free) tapes. Section two contains transcriptions of 11 round tables, and summarizes the personal interviews according to theme. These include agriculture, humor, religion, the woman in French culture, and education. Section three contains a summary of the tapes, according to language functions, and the corresponding transcriptions. Section four contains suggestions for learning activities using the tapes. Appendices contain: a bibliography, proper names of persons and organizations alluded to in the tapes, abbreviations used in the tapes, and a French-English glossary of familiar terms. (AM)
