Proceedings from the fifth annual meeting of the North Carolina Association for Institutional Research (NCAIR) focus on issues affecting higher education and the relationship of these issues to the institutional research function. Included are general session addresses by Charles A. Lyons and Dick Robinson that discuss the implications of Judge Pratt's decision for higher education in general and for the State of North Carolina. Papers from concurrent sessions include: Student Evaluation of Teaching Effectiveness: Implications for Institutional Research (James L. Morrison), and Faculty Data and Profiles: Questions and Dilemmas (Peggy Goldstein). Other discussion topics that are briefly noted include: Academic Cost Analysis; Uses of the Factbook; Some Questions and Suggested Answers for Institutional Researchers on Data Presentations; Internal Uses of Data; The Institute on Desegregation; A Center for Inter-Institutional Research; and Needed: A Plan for Planning. Abstracts of 31 reports are provided in the following areas: institutional goals, administrative, faculty, curriculum, student characteristics, recruitment and admissions, predictions and academic performance, statistics, and long-range planning. The proceedings of the business meeting, the NCAIR conference program, the 1977 financial statement, constitution and bylaws, and membership directory are also included.
