The Endicott Report. Trends in the Employment of College and University Graduates in Business and Industry, 1980. Thirty-Fourth Annual Report. A Survey of 170 Well-known Business and Industrial Concerns.
Endicott, Frank S.
The 34th annual survey of policy and practice in the employment of college and university graduates in business and industry reports responses received from 170 companies. Surveys were returned during October and November 1979. The major purpose of the report is to supply information of interest to colleges and universities as well as employers. One feature is an estimate by the responding companies of the number of graduates to be employed during the coming year and the starting salaries to be offered. Early indications for the 1980 employment season are that there was increased activity in the college placement offices. In most institutions, more students were using placement services and more employers were scheduling interviews. The responding companies represent a variety of business interests: machinery/heavy equipment, light manufacturing, utilities, banking/investment, building materials/construction, retail store/mail order, drugs/chemicals, steel/other metal, insurance, oil/gas, automobile/aircraft, public accounting, research/engineering, food/grain processing, textiles/rubber, data processing, printers/publishing/advertising, carriers, paper/paper products, and others. Estimates are categorized by college major and level. Reasons for accepting or rejecting offers, reasons for not offering jobs, and turnover (loss of employees after 3.5 years) are included. A list of suggestions made for college placement offices is given. (MSE)
