Systems for Teaching Complex Texts: A Proof-of-Concept Investigation
Fisher, Douglas; Frey, Nancy
Reading Teacher, v69 n4 p403-412 Jan-Feb 2016
In this article we investigate the systems that need to be in place for students to learn from increasingly complex texts. Our concept, drawn from past research, includes clear learning targets, teacher modeling, collaborative conversations, close reading, small group reading, and wide reading. Using a "proof of concept" model, we follow teachers as they implement the model and then share the results that the teachers identify.
