This study investigated three questions: the relationship between the use of stated instructional objectives and achievement in audio-tutorial (A-T) instruction, the relationship of learner personality and achievement under conditions of A-T, as well as determining the power of selected batteries of intellective and personality variables to predict achievement in A-T units. The intact college class (288 students) was randomly divided into three treatment groups: a group which received behavioral objectives, a group which received non-behavioral objectives, and a group which received no objectives for each of six A-T units. The results indicated a significant difference at the .05 confidence level between the three treatment groups receiving behavioral objectives. The results of learner personality and achievement under conditions of A-T showed "introvert-stables" had the highest group means while the second highest set of group means were for the "introvert-neurotics." The third question concerning multiple regression analysis to determine achievement in A-T units indicated that the grade from the prerequisite course and the S.A.T. Math score were the best individual predictors. (Author/BR)
