NASP Practice Model: Examples from the Field
Rossen, Eric
Communique, v41 n6 p12-13 Mar-Apr 2013
The "Model for Comprehensive and Integrated School Psychological Services," also known as the NASP Practice Model, outlines 10 general domains of school psychological practices. This article is one in a series that highlights various domains within the Practice Model and, through an interview with practicing school psychologists, illustrates how these domains are effectively applied in everyday professional activities. Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) in Maryland, one of the nation's 25 largest school districts, has 205 schools, approximately 124,000 students, and nearly 18,000 employees. The district serves a diverse student population from urban, suburban, and rural communities and has previously been nationally recognized for various innovative programs and initiatives. School psychologists Scott Showalter and Chris Osterhout, with support from Mark Resnick (coordinator of psychological services) and Florence Foreman (supervisor of psychological services), recently engaged in a multiyear process to improve and reorganize the district's crisis preparedness and response plan. Their work exemplifies the significant and positive role that school psychologists can play in impacting school safety.
