Project C.E.B.I. (Credit for Education in Business and Industry). Final Report.
Duffy, David E.
By providing relevant credit courses, this community college project has attempted to meet the needs of members of the business and industry community. The project had four objectives: (1) Manchester Community College (MCC) was to expand the existing cooperative training program for apprentices/graduate apprentices employed by Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Group (P&WA), (2) MCC was to identify other business/industry credit-worthy training programs to duplicate the P&WA model, (3) academic and career counseling were to be added to all programs, and (4) MCC was to identify unmet continuing education needs of participating businesses' employees and design courses to meet these needs. The Pratt and Whitney Cooperative Program has been expanded from six classes (145 enrollees) starting in fall, 1976, to sixteen classes (312 enrollees) in fall, 1978. Counseling has been provided for approximately 200 employees. Life Office Management Association courses have been evaluated for academic credits which have been combined with on-site credit courses at Connecticut Mutual and Connecticut General Life Insurance Companies. Data Processing Operations courses have been awarded credit at Aetna Life and Casualty. Academic counseling is part of all programs. Finally, courses have been developed by MCC and the Hartford Graduate Center to meet the Hartford area's continuing education needs. (Author/CSS)
