Institutional Priority for Diversity at Christian Institutions
Paredes-Collins, Kristin
Christian Higher Education, v8 n4 p280-303 2009
This evaluative study explored the relationship between institutional priority for diversity and minority enrollment at four schools within the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, a consortium of Christian institutions. This institutional evaluation utilized public resources in order to gather descriptive data on minority enrollment and institutional commitment. A coding system was used to construct an analysis of each school's institutional priority for engaging the campus community in a diverse learning experience. The themes of intentionality, environment, and demographic awareness were explored. The degree to which the universities embodied each individual theme substantiated their placement within a typology of institutional commitment. This typology gives each university a classification of high institutional commitment, moderate institutional commitment, or weak institutional commitment. (Contains 3 tables and 2 figures.)
