The TIPS (Teaching Information Processing System) Course Package was designed to be used with the Macro-Games Course Package (SO 011 930) in order to train college students to apply the tools of economic analysis to current problems. TIPS is used to provide feedback and individualized assignments to students, as well as information about the progress of the class as a whole to the teacher. The document is presented in seven sections. Section I offers a course management plan for eight weeks, listing lecture topics, reading assignments, TIPS survey suggestions, and special activities. Section II explains the components of the TIPS instructional package, including a list of concept areas, objectives, tests, simulated sample student reports, and rules to direct each student's course of instruction. Sections III through VIII consist of TIPS instructional units, numbered 0-4, covering basic macroeconomic concepts; basic tools and terminology used in studying economics; a simple model of income and expenditure determination; aggregate demand, unemployment, and inflation; and using the expanded model for policy making. Concept areas and contents are listed for each unit, including educational objectives such as definition of terms, identification of goals and roles, application of laws, identification of relationships, and technical application of concepts and tools. Multiple choice surveys with answer keys, simulated sample student reports, and prescription and decision rules also accompany each unit. Section IX provides seven problems and their answer keys. (CK)
