Ayudando a los Ninos a Amarse a Si Mismos y a Otros: Una guia profesional para el cuidado infantil en el hogar (Helping Children Love Themselves and Others: A Professional Handbook for Family Day Care).
Gellert, Sandra; And Others
This Spanish-language guide presents an anti-bias, multicultural approach to family day care. Part A provides a rationale for such an approach. Subsections of this part concern: (1) family day care as a site for the transmission of bias; (2) characteristics of an anti-bias, multicultural approach; (3) language and stereotypes; (4) developmental tasks at different ages; (5) parents as partners; (6) the family day care environments; and (7) strategies to use with children. Part B outlines ideas for children's anti-bias, multicultural projects, describing such activities and offering guidelines for celebrating nontraditional holidays. Part C describes children's books and adult resources and lists sources of hard-to-find items. Subsections of this part offer: (1) a checklist for books, toys, and materials; (2) an annotated bibliography of 301 items of children's literature, indexed according to gender of the main character, the race or culture of the main character, multi-ethnic content, and other characteristics such as special need content and a strong anti-bias message; (3) an annotated bibliography of 32 resources for adults; (4) a list of companies with anti-bias or multicultural books and materials; and (5) a list of resource organizations. Contains 57 references. (HTH)
