The guide, part of a social science learning continuum from first through twelfth grades, contains outlines for two-semester social studies courses for grades 9-12. The Grade 9 course, Cultures of the Non-Western World, contains eight units: an introduction, Ancient Egypt, the Fertile Crescent, the Moslem World, Africa, India, Southeast Asia, China, and Japan. The Grade 10 course, Cultures of the Western World, is comprised of ten units: an introduction, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Reformation, Great Britain, France, the U.S.S.R., Nationalism and the Unification of Germany, and the World Wars. In Grade 11 students focus on American History after the Civil War. The ten units are entitled Rebuilding the Nation, the Rise of Industrialism, the Progressive Era, the United States Becomes a World Power, the United States Enters the First World War, the Golden Twenties, the New Deal, the Second World War, the Cold War Era, and Detente and Rapid Change. The Grade 12 section is a course in government and economics.
