Family Communication Patterns, Rebelliousness, and Adolescent Reactions to Anti-drug PSAs.
Skinner, Ellen R.; Slater, Michael D.
Journal of Drug Education, v25 n4 p343-55 1995
Proposes that the impact of adolescents' reactions to antidrug messages is contingent upon the extent of adolescent rebelliousness. Studied 51 adolescents who saw 6 antidrug Public Service Advertisements (PSAs). Rebellious adolescents from the more authoritarian, conformity-oriented families who were shown antidrug PSAs considered the messages relatively less believable than did the nonrebellious adolescents from authoritarian, conformity-oriented families.
