Babies, Toddlers and the Media.
Fenichel, Emily, Ed.
Zero to Three, v22 n2 Oct/Nov, 2001
"Zero to Three" is a single-focus bulletin of the National Center for Infants, Toddlers, and Families providing insight from multiple disciplines on the development of infants, toddlers, and their families. Noting that America's babies and toddlers live in a world full of television sets, VCRs, computers, videogames, and interactive toys, this issue focuses on babies, toddlers, and the media, addressing the impact of media experiences on young children's development. The articles are as follows: (1) "Electronic Childhood: The Availability and Use of Household Media by 2-to 3-Year-Olds" (Amy B. Jordan and Emory H. Woodard IV); (2) "Peril and Potential of Media for Infants and Toddlers" (Daniel R. Anderson, and Marie K. Evans); (3) "Infants, Toddlers, and Television: The Ecology of the Home" (Kelly M. Schmitt); (4) "The Truth about 'Teletubbies'" (Susan Linn and Alvin F. Puissaint); (5) "Computers, TV, and Very Young Children: What Impact on Development?" (Claire Lerner, Dorothy G. Singer, and Ellen Wartella); (6) "Toddlers and Computers: A Father's Wary Eye" (Kyle Pruett); and (7) "It's about Time! Computers as Assistive Technology for Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities" (Mary Wilds). Regular departments of the bulletin list Zero to Three publications, videotapes, and on-line resources, and announcements about Zero to Three staff. (HTH)
