This curriculum guide for transmission/transaxle specialist is one in a series of automotive service speciality publications that is based on the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence task lists. The curriculum contains nine units. Each unit of instruction includes some or all of the following components: objective sheet, instructor's guide, information sheet, instructional supplement, assignment sheet, job sheet (and skill test record), written test, answers (to assignment sheets and written test), transparency masters, learning activity package (LAP) sheet, handouts, and other required media. These components are organized within three packages. The instructor's manual includes the following: a curriculum and duty/task crosswalk; basic skills matrix; one set per unit of instructor's guide, answers, and test code sheets; and instructional supplement (one set for all basic skills enablers appearing in the book). The instructor's resource package contains one set per unit of LAP sheet, transparency masters, and written test; handouts; and other required media. The student workbook includes objective sheets, information sheets, assignment sheets, and job sheets. The nine units cover the following topics: introduction to automatic transmissions and transaxles; servicing hydraulic system components; servicing rear-wheel drive transmissions; servicing torque converter and oil pump; servicing gear train/gearsets; servicing friction units and cooler; servicing front-wheel drive transaxles; diagnosing general automatic transmission/transaxle problems; and testing related electronic components.
