"Secrets" to Marital Success: Using Field Interviews to Enhance Student Understanding
Phillips, Tommy M.; Wilmoth, Joe D.; Staier, Tabitha
Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, v101 n4 p18-19 2009
Students in human development and family studies can benefit from field assignments that provide first-hand, experiential learning. This article describes benefits of an assignment in which students in a family life education course interviewed couples who had been married at least 7 years. Students received suggestions for achieving a satisfying, long-lasting marriage. Responses, which counteracted inaccurate media messages, have potential for benefiting students personally and professionally.
