This annotated bibliography focuses on the issue of homosexuality in books for young people. The 120 books listed represent a period of great change in the depiction of homosexuality in children's literature by indicating the way sexual preference and sexuality is presented to young people. The recognition that homosexuality is an inherent part of society is the main area that this bibliography explores. Many of the books present positive role models. Most of the books are for adolescents, though a few are for children. All books have been published in English. The first four appendixes list the books by the following categories: stories with homosexual main characters; stories with homosexual supporting characters; stories with homosexual background characters; and stories which mention homosexuality or use homosexual terms. The rest of the appendixes present: proportion of male to female homosexual characters; characters by sex of author; chronological list of titles; and number of titles published per year.
