A few years ago a state legislator traveled throughout California to promote a referendum that would prohibit homosexuals from teaching in classrooms. Together with his companions, they said that allowing homosexuals to teach in the classroom would expose young people to the "wrong role models." In this article, the author shares his views on this discriminatory perception towards homosexuality in the teaching profession. The author encourages the system to hire teachers based on their dedication to helping students realize their potential rather than on mere sexual orientation.
