Happily Homeschooling Teens: Encouragement.
Cohen, Cafi
This booklet is the sixth in a series designed to assist parents who are home-schooling their adolescent children and focuses on ways to provide encouragement to home-schooled teenagers. The articles in this booklet are: (1) "First Year Surprises," presenting one home-schooling family's experiences during the first year related to the nature of success, the flexibility of home education, and the radical change in lifestyle associated with home-schooling; (2) "Decompression FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)," concerning the adjustment period during which parents and children "detoxify" from the deleterious effects of full-time institutional education and how parents and teenagers can ease the adjustment; (3) "Dealing with Doubts," providing suggestions for parents to reduce their anxiety about home-schooling; (4) "'But I Want to Go to School!'," discussing ways to evaluate the educational options for teenagers who wish to return to public school; and (5) "Ten Reasons to Homeschool through High School," including providing a head start on college, travel opportunities, work experience, improving family closeness, reducing peer pressure, and providing an opportunity to enjoy learning.
