This article provides a description of home-based education in the state of Florida and addresses the financial queries that often arise in the debate regarding the probative value of homeschooling and its effects on the financial coffers of state legislatures. This simple analysis of home-based education and its financial implications for Florida is significant because Florida is a leader in providing school choice options for parents. Also research has consistently shown the Florida Education Finance Program (FEFP), the state-funding mechanism, to be one of the most equitable in the nation. It was determined that the state reaps a small financial benefit due to homeschooling, and recommends that state legislatures embrace the emergence of homeschooling as "a viable alternative, which may play a significant role in diminishing the cost of public education for taxpayers in their respective states."
