Using Pesticides Safely. Special Circular 296.
Hock, W. K.
The use of pesticides is necessary to aid in the production of food, feed and fiber, and is equally important in the control of home garden and household pests, but correct use is critical in preventing injury to persons, animals, and plants. This circular contains information on State of Pennsylvania and federal pesticide laws; different types of pesticides (with definitions); toxicity; routes of entry into the human body (dermal, inhalation, and oral); how to read and interpret the label; pesticide formulations and packaging; protective clothing and safety equipment; how to mix pesticides; safe application, disposal, storage and transportation of pesticides; and what to do if poisoning occurs. Guidelines for keeping records on pesticide use are also included. (JMM)
