2011 Annual Report of the American Psychological Association
American Psychologist, v67 n5 suppl pC1-C4 Jul-Aug 2012
As we have throughout the association's history, we focused in 2011 on multiple initiatives--all designed to further, support, and communicate the important work that psychologists do. This year we had the benefit of APA's first-ever strategic plan as well as funding for the following seven initiatives that are specifically designed to execute the plan: Increase member engagement and value by assessing and restructuring our business models; conduct ongoing analysis of current and future demand for the psychology work force to meet national needs; continue to develop treatment guidelines to promote the translation of psychological science into practice; expand our public education campaign to communicate the scientific base of psychology; promote opportunities for graduate and professional development to advance psychology's role in health, including interdisciplinary training; increase support for research, training, public education, and interventions that reduce health disparities among underserved and marginalized populations; forge strategic alliances with health care organizations to include psychologists in integrated health care services. These initiatives will strengthen psychology's relevance to health care; to personal, community, and organizational wellness; and to research-based solutions to social needs. They will also strengthen APA's relevance to members, psychologists, and psychology students worldwide. Please read more about APA's activities in support of psychology and psychologists throughout this report. (Contains 3 tables.)
