Identifying Predictors of College Success through an Examination of AVID Graduates' College Preparatory Achievements
Watt, Karen M.; Huerta, Jeffery J.; Alkan, Ersan
Journal of Hispanic Higher Education, v10 n2 p120-133 Apr 2011
This mixed-methods research investigates the high school college preparatory achievements and college success of 50 high school graduates who participated in Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) and belonged to groups underrepresented in higher education. High performance on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) and acquiring college credits while in high school were found to be significant predictors of college success. In addition, AVID support and strategies contributed to students' transition into college. (Contains 2 tables.)
