Basic Laboratory Techniques for Students of Biology and Small Animal Care.
Schoen, Jerome; Berman, Paul
This document provides descriptions of lessons, activities, and laboratory experiments to be used in a course on basic laboratory techniques for students in biology and small animal care. These learning experiences are designed to be completed during one class period daily for approximately 70 days per semester. (It is assumed that this would leave sufficient time for laboratory quizzes, practical examinations, formal tests, use of multimedia materials, and review.) The aim of the course is to integrate the recitation and laboratory lessons so that they are mutually supportive. Each lesson is divided into six parts. These include: (1) the aim of the lesson; (2) the materials needed; (3) the learning outcomes expected from the lesson; (4) motivational suggestions; (5) the actual lesson procedures; and (6) some summary questions. The lessons (46 in all) are divided into sections on basic laboratory procedures, hematology, and urinalysis. A list of selected reference materials is also provided. (TW)
