PAATCH: Program of Auditory Articulation Therapy for Children. Expanded Version. New Carryover Home Activities.
Hill, Diane Pagnotto
This program of auditory articulation therapy de-emphasizes production-oriented therapy in working with unintelligible 3-to-6-year-old children. It proposes auditory training activities, which train the child's ears on all sounds in error in order to facilitate readiness for correct production of sounds. Production training is then suggested for subsequent use, when children begin successful sound production. The program is applicable to both group and individual therapy sessions. Referents for sounds are used to help children make and retain meaningful associations and to diminish the abstract nature of phonemes. A set of reproducible activity pages is offered for parents to work with their children at home. Appendices include lists of meaningful words, household words, and category words for each sound, and 21 reproducible pages of pictures to go with parent activities. A set of 21 cards containing articulation pictures for initial position for all target sounds is also included. (PB)
