A survey was made of parental expectations of secular and religious teachers at a Jewish day school in a large metropolitan area located in the Ohio Valley. The school, with a student population of 108 students, employs 6 secular and 4 religious teachers. A high response rate (61 percent) was received from the parents. Findings indicated that there was a high degree of agreement among parents concerning their expectations of teachers in the school. Of major concern was that teachers be well-trained and hold a college degree, be concerned with the individual student, and be capable of using a variety of teaching styles and techniques. There was a feeling among parents that all teachers should be able to relate subject matter content to the ethical aspects of religion. There was also high agreement that secular teachers stress reading, math, science, and social studies in the curriculum. The most important curriculum area to be stressed by religious teachers was "Bible," followed by tradition and culture and Hebrew.
