The Impact of Electronic Health Records on Healthcare Professional's Beliefs and Attitudes toward Face to Face Communication
Nickles, Kenneth Patrick
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Argosy University/Chicago
The impact of electronic health records on healthcare professional's beliefs and attitudes toward face to face communication during patient and provider interactions was examined. Quantitative survey research assessed user attitudes towards an electronic health record system and revealed that healthcare professionals from a wide range of healthcare areas within a government medical facility held overall positive perceptions towards electronic health records system use during patient and provider encounters. Findings concluded that age was not tied to healthcare provider's overall attitudes about using an EHR system and potential barriers to using computers during patient care exist. Healthcare providers believed that using advanced healthcare technologies had a positive impact on various aspects of communication between patient and provider.
