School Bus Rider Safety Education Modules for Use with Drills on School Buses.

Developed for teachers and members of the pupil transportation staff who conduct school bus drills, these 10 lesson outlines are intended for classroom instruction on school bus safety. Lessons may be adapted to fit the grade level, intelligence, and special needs of students. Topics covered are: preparing to ride the bus, boarding and proceeding to seat, riding the school bus, leaving the bus and proceeding to destination, importance of safe and desirable behavior, hazardous weather and road conditions, school bus collisions, emergency evacuation procedures, special situation school bus transportation, and students with handicapping conditions as school bus riders. The components of each module are objectives, an introduction, content outline, and a conclusion. An annotated listing of suggested films and filmstrips is provided. Visual masters contained in a section of resource materials may be used to make transparencies, posters, or handouts. Suggested procedures are also provided for three mandated drills held at specific times during the school year. A pupil transportation program evaluation form is also included. (YLB)
