Prototype Semantics: A Case Study of TE-K/IK- Constructions in Japanese.
Hasegawa, Yoko
Language and Communication, v13 n1 p45-65 Jan 1993
Using framework of prototype semantics, TE-constructions (type of verbal construct in Japanese), are categorized according to underlying metaphors and related to central TE-construction in which K- 1K- indicate both motion and direction in physical space. Through descriptions, discussions, and examples, it is demonstrated that no adequate description of TE-Constructions can be achieved without concept of prototype and metaphysical mapping. (LET)
