Mandate for Children.
National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions, Alexandria, VA.; Coalition for America's Children, Washington, DC.
One of several reports on the status of children conducted for the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions, this document is based on data obtained from 5,274 telephone interviews of registered voters conducted in 7 states and the District of Columbia during February, 1992. It reports voter opinion on issues affecting children, finding that respondents firmly support President Clinton's stated goals for children and expect him to fulfill his promises where children are concerned. The main body of the report lists the results in tabular form and provides a copy of the survey instrument and the results. Among the results reported were the following: (1) 73 percent of respondents rated children's issues first or second in importance of the Clinton Administration's stated goals; (2) at least 76 percent of respondents favored or strongly favored action on other child-related issues endorsed by Clinton, such as welfare reform, increased funding for education, waiting periods for handgun purchases, basic health care for children and pregnant women, Head Start, and unpaid family leave; and (3) 50 percent of respondents said they would favor Clinton's proposals for children even if they increased the deficit.
