Helping Teams Succeed: An Essay Review of "Groups That Work (and Those That Don't): Creating Conditions for Effective Teamwork."
Kain, Daniel L.
Middle School Journal, v24 n4 p25-31 Mar 1993
Teams are incompatible with the scientific management philosophy underlying traditional curricular and organizational theory. This article examines J. R. Hackman's book "Groups That Work (and Those That Don't): Creating Conditions for Effective Teamwork" (1990), as it illuminates the experience of teaching on a middle school interdisciplinary teaching team. The focus is on effective group characteristics and factors hindering success. (MLH)
