The materials in this educational packet are designed for use with students in grades 4 through 7. They consist of an overview, three lesson plans, student data sheets, and a poster. The overview provides an introduction to the range and nature of conflicts that can occur between wildlife and people, discussing some of the reasons these problems arise and how some conflicts can be reduced or avoided with proper planning. A glossary and list of reference materials are included. The lesson plans provide a list of learning outcomes, instructional strategies, a list of materials needed, and an activity review sheet (with answers). Lesson activities include: (1) examining "nuisance" bird habitats on a field trip; (2) examining human viewpoints on wildlife by studying the golden eagle/sheep issue; and (3) playing a game (habitat hopscotch) to test wildlife knowledge. The two-sided poster emphasizes the situational nature of many wildlife conflicts by showing a raccoon in an appropriate natural setting and another in an urban setting (side 1) and provides (on side 2) the habitat hopscotch game board together with background information and game directions. Two additional activities (including a crossword puzzle) are also provided on a separate student handout. (JN)
