Using Stories to Teach Flow in Educational Gymnastics
Doering, Natalie
Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (JOPERD), v77 n1 p38-43 Jan 2006
This article illustrates a lesson idea used by a real teacher, in a real class setting with fourth-and fifth-grade students in the United States. The teacher created this lesson idea as she struggled to answer the question, "How can I help my students use transitions to create flow in their gymnastics routines?" Together with the author, the teacher developed a solution to her problem--incorporating stories into gymnastics. Two rubrics, one analytic and one holistic, are included in this article. While the article describes the teacher's lesson specifically, the reader is encouraged to generalize the process and steps to his or her teaching setting. (Contains 2 tables and 4 figures.)
