This article presents the author's personal narrative as an immigrant from Sierra Leone who has undergone so many challenges in life and ended up turning all these obstacles into opportunities. In this article, the author describes his life growing up in Sierra Leone, his first experience of the horrors of war, his life as a student, and his dream of going to America and continue his education there. In his mind, students in America are nurtured and given the best education in the world. Teachers provide a lot of support, and there are a lot of technological tools that aid students' learning. He dreamt about having all this if he went to America. He told himself that if he got to America he would work hard to get a scholarship for college. Winning first place in a history competition at his school gave him the chance to go to the U.S. Going to college will be his greatest accomplishment of all, because he will be the first in his whole family to actually complete high school. He looks forward to what the future will bring after college. He has traveled a long distance to reach where he is today, but in many ways, his journey is just beginning.
