More than Just Core Knowledge? A Framework for Effective and High-Quality Primary Geography
Owens, Paula
Education 3-13, v41 n4 spec iss p382-397 2013
The Primary Geography Quality Mark (PGQM) is a support mechanism for the development of successful school geography, which uses evaluative criteria to help subject leaders plan and lead the subject. Evidence from schools that have used the PGQM shows that whilst core knowledge is a necessary ingredient of geography, the knowledge and skill of teachers as "curriculum-makers" is essential in blending other aspects of this dynamic subject together to ensure successful geographical experiences. Furthermore, schools find such a framework a powerful and enabling tool for curriculum development.
