Collection Development "Mini-Travel Guides": Traveling Light
Kaufmann, Linda M.
Library Journal, v134 n4 p36-38 Mar 2009
Predictions regarding how much traveling Americans will be doing this year and where they might go vary, but it is expected that many will cut back on what is increasingly considered a luxury. Even so, gasoline prices are down substantially from a year ago, the stronger dollar means better prices in Europe, and there are discounts in all areas of the travel industry. Those who decide they can afford to travel will be examining all the costs and economizing wherever they can. The trip may be short, people who fly may take only a carry-on to avoid the bag-check fee, and people are more likely to turn to their library and the Internet for travel advice. Compact, portable travel guides offer libraries and their patrons some benefits over larger guides. The majority of the books listed in this article are lightweight and contain 200 pages or less. (Contains 22 resources and 6 online resources.)
