Where's the Ministry in Administration? Attending to the Souls of Our Schools
Graseck, Paul
Phi Delta Kappan, v86 n5 p373 Jan 2005
In this article, the author argues that administrators should not overlook their nurturing, supportive, even ministerial role. He also argues that those who would create learning communities would do well to embrace it. It was Mohandas Gandhi who said, "I can say without the slightest hesitation and yet in all humility, that those who say that religion has nothing to do with politics do not know what religion means." The author asserts, likewise, a wise school administrator discovers that those who say education has nothing to do with religion do not know what education means. Sections in this article include: (1) Public Schools as Spiritual Communities; (2) The Basis of Effective Leadership; (3) What Good Administrators Do; (4) Identifying Managers Who Can Minister; (5) The Major Obstacle to True Administration; and (6) Listen, Comfort, Support, Inspire. (Contains 17 endnotes.)
