Compiled are presentations given at the Institute on Gifted/Talented Early Childhood Education in January, 1977. Considered in "Current Myths Concerning Gifted Children" by H. Robinson are the myth of the "giftedness syndrome", the myth of the qualitatively different gifted individual, and myths about educating children with special gifts. M. Howard and R. Jenkins, authors of "Aids to Programming for Young Gifted and Talented Children," describe a resource guide for preschool and primary programs for the gifted and talented and an inservice training model for educators of the young gifted and talented. Examined in "A Psychiatrist Views Underachievers Among Gifted Children" by I. Berkovitz are such causes of underachievement as childhood influences, the use of speech for defensive purposes, anticipation of success by parents, teacher expectations, and the effect of the gifted label upon personality. The final selection, "Parent Talk" by W. Abraham offers two brief excerpts from the magazine by the same name. (DB)
