EKISTICS (OIKIETIKH): The Problems and Science of Human Settlements, Volume 42, Number 250, September 1976. Futures.
Bell, Gwen, Ed.
The articles in this issue of "Ekistics" concentrate on the future and deal mainly with settlements the size of megalopolis or larger. In general, these articles focus on the networking elements which hold together the society of the future and relate to the needs of the people and of nature. Topics discussed include processes of transitional urbanization; public attitudes toward present and future technologies; implications of the democratization of work; protection of the environment and world public order; and the future of futurism. One article presents a simulation showing sets of conditions under which fairly high fertility gives better economic performance than does low fertility. Another article discusses how residents of the United States associate technology with significant social change. Tables, photographs, and references are included. A listing of back issues of "Ekistics" on futures is also given. (Author/MA)
