The Influence of Differential Pre-Reading Instructions on Constructing Different Dimensions of Situational Representations and Problem-Solving in FL Narrative Text Comprehension.
Yoshimura, Fumiko
Reading Psychology, v23 n1 p27-44 Jan-Mar 2002
Reports two experiments that address effects of differential pre-reading instructions. Suggests that instruction that monitors procedural representations helps readers with foreign language (FL) proficiency to construct situational representations, but is of little help to solve an inference problem. Finds that individuals generate different levels of representations during discourse comprehension; i.e., verbatim, textbase, and situational responses. (SG)
