A Psychodynamic Approach to Suicide: A Critical and Selective Review.
Lees, John; Stimpson, Quentin
British Journal of Guidance & Counselling, v30 n4 p373-82 Nov 2002
This paper begins by critically exploring Freudian and post-Freudian understandings of suicide while drawing several examples from clinical practice. The paper then reconsiders psychodynamic approaches to suicidal clients from a Levinasian ethical position. Suggests that suicide may be a logical part of what it is to be human, rather than an indication of mental illness. (Contains 37 references.) (GCP)
