In the Spotlight: Professional Education Program Showcases Everyone's Practice in a Sharing Environment
Mather, Jane B.
Journal of Staff Development, v28 n4 p25-28 Fall 2007
In this article, the author describes how Fox Chapel Area High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania implemented its Professional Education Program. The school's Professional Education Program, which ended its sixth year in 2006-2007, involves scrupulous research, planning, and shared goals. Diverse and small groups of staff meet during protected time within the school day to work on teacher-selected goals. Teachers then demonstrate their professional learning with a portfolio and presentation to faculty and administrators at the end of the semester. The author also describes the impact of the Professional Education Program on teacher growth.
