Toward Effective Science Delivery among Recreation Personnel
Courtney, Arielle; Schneider, Ingrid E.
Applied Environmental Education and Communication, v15 n2 p99-110 2016
Effective science delivery to practitioners can improve recreation experiences and environmental educational outcomes. This project explored U.S. Department of Agriculture-Forest Service recreation personnel's research-based information sources, constraints to access and use of research, and opinions about how to improve science delivery to practitioners. Responses revealed research-based information seeking and use was constrained by lack of time and personnel. While increased time and funding is unlikely, forging partnerships and promotion of existing information resources can facilitate effective science delivery. A searchable recreation research database, white papers, executive summaries, and online videos were of greatest interest to staff. Community-building efforts could expand awareness of and accessibility to research.
