This two-volume textbook and collection of overhead transparency masters is intended for use in a course in setting up a small business. The following topics are covered in the first volume: getting off to a good start, doing market research, forecasting sales, financing a small business, understanding the different legal needs of different types of firms, getting a small business organized, advertising, developing and conducting effective publicity and public relations campaigns, and purchasing the correct supplies from the correct suppliers. The second volume includes units on the following topics: bookkeeping fundamentals, accounting, business policies, techniques of selling, insurance needs, self-improvement, personnel management, business plans and procedures for developing them, pitfalls and helpful hints, and techniques for staying on the road to success. Each of the individual units contains some or all of the following: an introduction to the chapter (including an outline of the topics to be covered); instructional text; sample questionnaires, forms, and exhibits; annotated lists of information sources; and a chapter summary.
