The course aims to train migrant health personnel to recognize and identify adverse sanitary conditions related to the migrant farmworkers' living and working environments, and to outline approaches for the presentation and alleviation of health hazards through the referral of recognized sanitary deficiencies and code violations to responsible regulatory agencies. Key content areas include epidemiology of migrant health, sanitation factors affecting migrant health and characteristics, and minimum legal sanitation standards and enforcement procedures and referral procedures. Divided into five sections, this manual presents the content areas in a sequence that promotes developmental understanding of knowledge, concepts and skills, and relates specific content areas to other content areas. The sections are (1) Introduction--provides the major points of the orientation session; (2) ABCs of Migrant Health--includes reading and reference material on the complex and interrelated factors of migrant health and of migrant health epidemiology; (3) Sanitation Factors--covers the overall relation of sanitation factors to the epidemiology of migrant health, sewage and solid waste sanitation, disease vector control, and housing, food and water sanitation factors; (4) Pesticides--includes an "Informational Booklet on Pesticides" and a detailed outline on pesticides; and (5) The Law and Code Regulations--focuses on the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
