Nutrition Education Needs Pantry Clients
Wood, Dolores K.; Shultz, Jill Armstrong; Edlefsen, Miriam; Butkus, Sue N.
Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, v99 n2 p34-41 2007
Two food pantries were surveyed for nutrition education (NE) interests and experiences. One site provided nutrition education classes; the comparison site was utilized to assess client interest in class topics. "Fixing low cost meals," "fixing quick and easy recipes," and "stretching food and food dollars" were topics rated highly by nutrition education participants (usefulness) and other clients (likely to attend). Nutrition education participants with greater household food insecurity were more likely to rate "understanding food labels" and "food storage tips" as useful topics. Food pantries delivering nutrition education can use these results to guide educational approaches and impact measures. (Contains 3 tables.)
