Nutrition Activities Resource Guide.
New York City Board of Education, Brooklyn, NY. Div. of Special Education.
The resource guide suggests activities to help special education students make appropriate choices about their nutritional habits. It is explained that the activities can be infused into other curriculum areas. The guide consists of five themes and includes performance objectives for each: foods eaten at school (planning a school lunch, keeping a lunch diary, making a nutrient mobile); foods eaten at home (identifying a variety of foods, packing lunches, understanding how the body uses food, buying food wisely, recipes for international snacks); foods eaten in restaurants (collecting menus to compare restaurants); foods grown (recipes for snacks, exploring plant growth); and foods eaten by athletes and physically active people (exploring the role of nutrients in growth and development, maintaining physical fitness, planning menus for an athlete).
