Ekanem, Imaobong Columba
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Wilmington University, Delaware
The study discussed in this dissertation identified and examined the factors that influence parent charter school choice. The study was conducted for a rural K-8 charter school in Delaware. The survey instrument used was a parent questionnaire which contained questions that examined the reasons for parent charter school choice, the features of charter school that specially appeal to parents in their charter school choice process. Questionnaires were distributed to 300 parents of students who were actively enrolled in the school at the time of the study. 270 questionnaires were completed and returned in a sealed envelope. Frequency distributions were computed for each of the research questions and some of the survey items. The result revealed that small size of charter school or classes, before and after school programs; greater opportunities for parental involvement are the most important reasons among others for parent charter school choice. Class size, sports program, and people running the school are important features of charter school while quality of teaching, food, school facilities and technology were considered the least important features of charter school.
