In this article, the author, a superintendent of Adlai E. Stevenson High School District 125, discusses how they have addressed their school community's collective fear of failing to continue to grow. Staying focused on their individual and collective adult behaviors and respond to any manifestation or source of student failure, is the simplest and most obvious answer. However, the answer to sustaining quality effort, quality achievement, and high levels of demonstrated student learning is more complex. As a professional learning community, the author, stresses that they have to embody the preserve/change model James Collins described in his book, "Good to Great". Collin's strategy fueled the Stevenson learning community cycle for continuous improvement model, which allows them to achieve two primary goals: creating process for change that is first and foremost about producing tangible results; and preserving their core values by maintaining and celebrating actions that advance them toward those core values.
