Documentation forwarded to the U. S. Office of Education describing the Arizona State Plan for the Education of Migrant Children for fiscal year (FY) 1980 and requesting financial assistance to provide supplemental educational and support services to children of migratory farmworkers and fishermen enrolled in local school districts is presented. The program is designed to serve more than 14,000 eligible children (predominantly Spanish-speaking Mexican Americans) by developing oral language skills; promoting general well being through the provision of medical, dental, and nutritional services; and providing occupational skills and knowledge of career opportunities. Materials include the state plan administration; organizational chart of the Arizona Department of Education; program definitions; certification by the state attorney general that the Arizona State Board of Education is the appropriate agency to submit and implement this plan; copies of the application for federal assistance and project approval information; budget figures totaling $5,842,280.00 available for FY 1980; program narratives for 1979 carry-over funds and FY 1980 stating objectives and need for this assistance, result or benefits expected, plan of action, activities scheduled, data to be collected, project workers, geographic location information, biographical sketches of key personnel, and accomplishments to date; and assurance of compliance.
